4 Big Reasons to Bring the Family to PAMA This Holiday Season

Winter break is fast approaching (or it’s already here depending on when you’re reading this), and the kids are home with nothing to do. They’re counting on you to cure their boredom. So how do you do it?

Well, if you’re looking a fun family outing that everyone can enjoy, then you need to visit PAMA!

While PAMA is Peel Region’s best destination for art, culture, and family-oriented activities all year round, there’s no better time to visit than this holiday season, with a variety of fun events and activities planned throughout December and into January. There’s something new and exciting to enjoy every day!

Not only that, but winter break activities at PAMA (as well as some exhibitions and other events) are completely free of charge, sponsored by the Friends of Sikh Studies. You don’t need to break the bank to have a good time!

Without further ado, here are 4 excellent reasons to bring the family to PAMA this holiday season.

4. Get crafty with a fun new art project each day:

There’s nothing better for young hands and minds (or even older hands and minds!) than making art, and PAMA has a multitude of special art project for you to work on as part of their Winter Break: Art Attack activities. Whether you’re making holiday-themed silhouettes out of tissue paper or creating gorgeous winter sculptures, there’s no better opportunity to unleash your artistic creativity!

3. Get in the groove with Folk Music Night:

No other genre of music soothes the soul quite like traditional folk music. At PAMA you can experience the musical talents of the Brampton Folk Club, which works to promote and encourage folk music in the city while also acting as a forum for new musicians to hone their skills. The next Folk Music Night falls on Thursday, December 12, and the theme of the night is Earthly Concerns.

2. Explore PAMA’s historic spaces and multiple unique art exhibitions:

There’s never a shortage of interesting events and exhibitions taking place at PAMA! Ever wonder what happens to your trash when it leaves the curb, or just how much of an impact we have on the environment? Trash Talk explores some of the complex problems facing our world today, from air pollution to climate change, and comes up with creative solutions to help the planet. Local action can lead to global change!

If you have an eye for art, consider checking out George Paginton: Painting a Nation, featuring beautiful landscape paintings by artist George Paginton. His works capture gorgeous scenes from all across Canada, including Peel Region, and are created in the tradition of the world-famous Group of Seven Painters.

The Sakhis of Guru Nanak celebrates the life and legacy of the founder of Sikhism through Janamasakhis (manuscripts), Sakhis (painted stories), photographs and narrative textiles including Phulkaris (embroidery) and Rumalas (sacred cloth). Admission to this exhibition is completely free until January 19, 2020!

1. Enjoy special activities the whole family can get into during Sunday FUNdays:

For the ultimate family-oriented experience, look no further than Sunday FUNdays! During these events, residents are encouraged to engage with art through a variety of special activities based on PAMA’s exhibitions and themes.

The theme for the upcoming Sunday FUNday on December 15 is: Let it Snow! Bring the family and enjoy a selection of instructor-led and winter-based activities. Another FUNday happens on January 26 and it’s a special Winter Fun Fest edition to kick off the new decade in 2020!
