It has been new restaurant openings galore in Brampton this year!

Casual dining joints, classt sit-down restaurants, and entirely new concept restaurants changed the face of Brampton’s restaurant scene in 2017.

Fresh Xpress (yum, healthy options), JB’s Street Meat (R.I.P., incredible burgers), Delight Pho (mmm…soup), and a new Sunset Grill location (breakfast, yes plase) are just a few of the restaurants that took Brampton by storm this year, and the momentum is ongoing.

Bramptonians do love to eat!

So, what were the biggest new restaurants of 2017 that are still kicking in B-town?

5) Mayura

Acclaimed toque Ranveer Brar, an executive chef and judge on MasterChef India, opened Mayura by Chef Ranveer Brar, his first five-star restaurant in Brampton, in March of this year. Located on Hurontario and Ray Lawson, Brar’s fine dining restaurant is ideal for a date night or a family get together, offering ambiance and a menu that includes both traditional Indian and fusion fare. Two can dine comfortably (apps, entrees, dessert, maybe even drinks) for well upwards of $60 plus tax on such deliciousness as salmon tikka, butter chicken, incredible naan, and more. With some Bollywood instrumentals in the background while you eat, it’s a solid resto!

4) Spicy Island Jerk Caribbean Fusion

Spicy Island Jerk Caribbean Fusion set up shop in the downtown core early in March and is satisfying the bustling downtown crowd with a range of comforting Caribbean classics, including jerk pork, fried chicken, curry goat, oxtail, stew fish, chicken soup and more. Centrally located on Main Street, the resto is easily accessible for workers looking to grab a quick lunch or visitors hoping to enjoy a dinner that’s on the hotter side. As for the resto’s signature dish, operators recommend the jerk chicken and jerk pork.

3) Food Fight Barbecue Bar

From pork spare ribs and beef brisket, to homemade sausages and fried chicken, to spicy mac and cheese and poutine, the brand new casual resto near Queen St. and Airport Rd. has some indulgent menu items all set for customers. They boast dine-in, take-out, and delivery, so if you want to try their food, you don’t even need to leave your house. “We smoke our meat all night over whole chunks of naturally procured wood,” says the resto. All of their meat and produce is sourced from Ontario, so you can be glad to know you’re eating local. They opened at the end of September of this year. 2) Portas Do Mar Bar & Grill

We announced back in April that a brand new Portuguese restaurant had opened in Brampton — and Brampton was very excited about it! Portas Do Mar – or, “Doors to the Sea” – has settled into a location at Main and Vodden, where Martin’s BBQ Chicken used to be. The location is now under new ownership. The restaurant boasts BBQ chicken, grilled meat, and seafood on their menu, with healthy sides of potatoes, veggies, and rice. Anyone craving flavourful grilled meat in hearty portions seems to be in for a treat, as the resto is easily accessible to visitors from its central location.

1) Wendel Clark’s

To say this was one of the city’s most highly-anticipated new openings is a huge understatement. The brand new opening was definitely good news for fans of comforting western staple foods and the hockey legend himself–especially considering the fact that Clark was on hand to welcome new patrons. The casual dining restaurant–which boasts locations in Vaughan, Burlington and Hamilton– opened up shop on Main Street North in late January, just steps away from the Rose Theatre. Some popular menu items include baby back ribs, chicken quesadillas, six different types of burgers (including the Wendel burger with bacon, onion rings and cheddar cheese), Montreal smoked meat sandwiches and more.
