Published December 22, 2017 at 7:30 pm

There is no moment like one that’s caught on video and immortalized on the internet forever. Yep, Brampton had a lot of those this year.

In 2017, there was a mix of unfortunate and very powerful, memorable moments that were caught on video in Brampton — car fires, rescue operations and aftermath from crashes, standing up to racist hecklers, driving backwards, and more.

But some moments stood out to Brampton more than others.

Here are the most watched “CAUGHT ON VIDEO” moments in Brampton this year, so you can catch them again.

5) CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Transport Truck Fails at Using Drive-Thru

A YouTube video titled “Only in Brampton” and uploaded by Juan Jaramillo shows a transport truck driver trying—and failing—to get his massive vehicle through a McDonald’s drive-thru at Derry and Tomken (which is actually in Mississauga, but is quite close to Brampton). “When you get a Mac Attack there is no stopping anyone to succeed!!!!,” Jaramillo writes before later replying to a comment and indicating that the driver had to eventually back out and hit a bush in the process. This happened not too long ago, the video was uploaded on December 12, 2017.

4) CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Massive Fire Breaks Out at Brampton Construction Site

This one is from March 2017. What happened? Well, two brand new homes caught fire at a construction site near Mayfield Road and Chinguacousy Road in the middle of the night on March 29, 2017. After emergency crews arrived on scene, Brampton firefighters gained control in the very early hours of Wednesday morning and the blaze was knocked down. No injuries were reported.

3) CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Brawl Breaks Out at a Plaza in Brampton

Very, very recently — on December 10, 2017 — a huge brawl broke out in a plaza parking lot at McLaughlin and Steeles. Something like 20 people were involved, and the video shows several aggressors attacking one or more victims with what seems to be 2x4s. On Friday, December 15, officers arrested three Brampton men. Karanbir Singh, Harbir Singh (both 22), and Gurpreet Singh (20) have each been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm. A 19-year-old male suffered minor injuries in the assault and was treated at a local hospital. Sheridan College across the street put out a recent statement saying none of its students have proven to be involved.

2) CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Jagmeet Singh Handles Racist Heckler at Brampton Event

It’s no secret that politicians are often heckled. Before former Brampton MPP Jagmeet Singh was the federal NDP leader, during his campaign back in September 2017, a woman harrassed him with racist comments. The event, caught on video by Brampton Focus, shows a woman accosting Singh on stage with an offensive and quite absurd rant about him being “in bed with Sharia” and the Muslim Brotherhood. Singh seemed unphased on the surface — after roughly four minutes of Singh and other attendees chanting “love and courage” and attempting to persuade the woman to leave, she voluntarily exited the area.

1) CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Insane and Dangerous Driving in Brampton

At the end of October 2017, Twitter user Shinda Singh posted a video titled “Meanwhile, in Brampton” that shows a motorist driving in reverse—rapidly, we might add—on the wrong side of the road. The video, which was was reportedly filmed on southbound Dixie Rd. past Steeles Ave., garnered the attention of thousands of Bramptonians, and was the most watched “CAUGHT ON VIDEO” moment on inbrampton.com. It goes without saying that this kind of driving should be avoided!
