5 Places to Get a Halloween Costume in Brampton
Halloween is creeping forward (get it?), so it’s time for you to get your costume together! Whether you’re staying home and handing out candy, going to a party, or taking your niece trick-or-treating, dressing up is essential - and fun.
Don’t be boring - dress up for Halloween, Brampton!
Here are five places you can put a costume together in Brampton:
Ah, thrift stores - the quintessential Halloween costume shopping spot for those creative enough to give it a shot. Talize is located around Steeles and Kennedy in Brampton, and it’s a good spot to slap together a costume. They do sell costume pieces like wigs, capes, witch hats and the like, and often full costumes, but they also have lots of other clothing and accessories if you’re looking to create a costume from scratch. Whether you just need a mask, or you want to put together an entire costume, Talize is a great option if you have some time to hunt around. You may also want to note that the closer we get to Halloween, the more slim your pickin’s will be.
Fun fact: I once created a Yoda costume entirely from things I found at Talize!
4) Local dollar stores
There are an abundance of local and often independent dollar stores across Brampton. Dollar Castle, Dollar Tree, and Dollar Depot Plus to name a few. If you’re not looking for an entire costume, just a few accessories, it might be useful to drop by and browse your local dollar store for that perfect, last minute addition to your costume - for cheap! Feather boas, animal ears, sometimes masks, and jewellery are just a few things you can grab for a dollar store Halloween costume. If you’re willing to get creative and use other things from a dollar store (an umbrella if you’re Mary Poppins? A broom if you’re a Quidditch player?) for your costume, even better.
Pro tip: You can always find last minute costume apparel here.
Extreme pro tip: head to a dollar store at a mall, like Shoppers World or BCC - you can’t get a whole outfit from the dollar store, but you can supplement your costume with items from the abundance of stores at the mall.
3) Party City
If you’re looking for a pre-packaged, traditional costume, Party City is a good option! Party City has two Brampton locations, one at Trinity Common and one in the Centennial Mall plaza. You’re almost guaranteed to find something at Party City, though it might be pricier than putting together a costume yourself. Not to worry - it’s ideal for anyone who wants a grab-and-go costume, or even someone looking for costume ideas. They’ve also got masks and other accessories if you’re looking for a more “legit” addition to your costume, plus couples costumes for you and your bae, and, the best part…dog costumes! Your dog could be a shark or a Ninja Turtle.
2) Value Village
This huge thrift store has two locations in Brampton - one at the 410 @ 7 Centre on West Drive, and one at Airport and Bovaird. They typically have costume makeup, full costumes, and even accessories if you’re looking for something like a hat or a feather boa even. Value Village also tends to have wigs, if that’s what you’re looking for this Halloween! Thirfting is also great for the environment…and your wallet. Also, according to Value Village, 87 per cent of Canadians admire someone who puts together their costume at a thrift store - so, get cracking, Brampton!
Pro tip: browse both locations if you have time since their stock may vary.
Fun fact: I’ve found Jem and the Holograms costumes and wigs at Value Village (yes, her iconic pink dress for those of you that know!).
1) Spirit Halloween
Spirit Halloween has popped up at BCC, and this is reason to be excited. They’ve got a great selection of full, pre-made costumes in grab-and-go packages for last minute shoppers and people looking for costumes well in advance alike. Whether you want to be something as simple as a cat or you want to get one of those piggyback costumes where it looks like you’re sitting on on ostrich, you’ll find a good selection of those and everything inbetween at Spirit. They also boast a ton of accessories, so if you’re looking to create or supplement a costume, Spirit is a one-stop-shop. Like with any costume shop, however, the best selection is available the earlier you go. So, for all of you October 30 shoppers, go now instead.
Fun fact: Spirit popped up at the old Target location at BCC a few months ago.
