A Big Change is on its Way to Starbucks Locations in Brampton

The world-famous gourmet coffee giant has launched a new tea latte in Canada, a specially-curated early morning playlist and a program that will send fresh, unpurchased food to people in need.
And now, it’s working on a more environmentally-friendly cup and lid.
Starbucks recently announced that it will pilot a “greener” to-go cup in Vancouver – one that will be both recyclable and compostable. It will also debut a new lightweight, strawless lid this summer that is recyclable to replace plastic straws. The lid will be introduced in Toronto.

Phased rollouts of the new strawless lids across the country will follow, so it should be available at your local Starbucks in the not-too-distant future.
Starbucks says the new lid marks a “key milestone” as the company works to phase out plastic straws from its more than 28,000 stores worldwide by 2020, eliminating more than 1 billion straws a year – a goal that was announced last July.
“Last summer, we led the movement to eliminate plastic straws,” says Michael Conway, executive vice president and president, Starbucks Canada. “But rather than replacing plastic straws, we’re focusing our efforts on reducing waste with the introduction of a recyclable strawless lid.”
The company has been using strawless lids for iced beverages in Vancouver and Seattle, but recently has redesigned them to be more lightweight. The new lids will roll out this summer to Starbucks locations in Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, DC, and Indianapolis.
The rest of U.S. and Canada will receive them by early next year.
The new lids have 9% less plastic than the current lid and straw (they’re also lighter weight than a current strawless lid being trialed in Seattle and Vancouver). The company says Frappuccino drinks and other blended beverages will continue to have a different, domed lid made from recyclable plastic and will be accompanied by a straw, except where local law prohibits it.
