At an August 19 conference, Mayor Patrick Brown discussed additional measures to deal with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in Brampton.

Today’s (August 19) conference featured Mayor Patrick Brown, Regional Councillor Paul Vicente and Dr. Lawrence Loh, Interim Medical Officer of Health, Peel Region.

During Councillor Vicente’s announcement, he acknowledged the collective hard work that Brampton residents have put in during the pandemic in an effort to keep everyone safe.

“We must remember that it is more important than ever to keep up these efforts,” said Vicente.

According to Vicente, this past week, the city’s enforcement and bylaw services received 97 COVID-19 complaints with 42 complaints being for face-covering violations, resulting in nine charges being laid under the mandatory face-covering bylaw.

“This is far less than what we have seen in the past and we thank residents for working hard to keep us all safe,” said Vicente.

“This week, staff have noticed that residential social gatherings and noise complaints are starting to increase again.”

According to Vicente, there were 44 residential social gathering complaints with an additional 72 calls for loud music.

“Even though the size of gatherings has increased, with all of us moving into Stage 3, your social bubble is still limited to 10 people any gathering greater than 10 people requires physical distancing be followed.”

Additionally, Vicente said that this week, nine charges were filed with the courts for a residential social gathering that occurred on July 27 in the City of Brampton.

“Together we can get through COVID-19, while we collectively prioritize the safety of others and the more vulnerable groups of our community,” concluded Vicente.
