If you’re looking for some incredible entertainment this summer, look no further than the Rose Theatre’s new season!

Under new Artistic Director of Performing Arts Brendan Healy, Brampton’s getting a rich new performance season at the Rose.

Over 100 performances, international stars, Canadian talent, and local artists are set to grace the stage with theatre, music, dance, and comedy from July 2018-April 2019, so Brampton’s in for a real treat.

What can you expect from the Rose?

First, a range of musical talent – including international stars – are set to hit the stage.

Don McLean and Marcia Griffiths are two of those international stars. Amjad Ali Khan and Dr. Subramaniam, two of India’s most renowned artists, will also be performing in Brampton. A host of Canadian talent both old and new like Holly Cole, Kardinal Offishall, Exco Levi, Jim Cuddy and Chantal Kreviazuk, are also coming to the Rose.

Theatre and dance aficionados might be excited to learn that a range of stories are taking over the Rose over the course of the new season.

It’ll be “theatre and dance programming abound with stories and themes relevant to the current social, political and economic climate,” reads a recent release from the theatre.

A Brimful of Asha (October 5 – 6, 2018) humorously explores intergenerational clashes; This is the Point (March 1 – 2, 2019) highlights the raw, individual experiences of living with cerebral palsy; Traces, a Red Sky Performance, explores Indigenous connections to ancestral origins and all things traceable through dance (November 22, 2018); and Cottagers and Indians (November 6 – 7, 2018) looks at the conflicting differences between cultures and economic status.”

Kids can enjoy what’s coming to the Rose this season, too.

According to the Rose, Brampton’s getting is first ever show for babies, One Thing Leads to Another on January 26, 2019, by Young People’s Theatre, Mini-Pop Kids and more.

Theatre-goers can also expect the largest bhangra competition of its kind in North America – the Flower City Bhangra Competition – on August 4, 2018, as well as the Rose Orchestra and Brampton Concert Band on various dates throughout the season.

It’s no secret that Brampton is full of talent, and the Rose is launching its first ever series called THIS IS BRAMPTON to showcase some of Brampton’s best.

The “raw and up-close series” aims to provide “an open platform for local talent, organizations and initiatives as well as an opportunity for multi-disciplinary artistic development in Studio II.”

Some key curators of the series include such arts-driven Brampton organizations as Brampton’s Very Own, Brampton Says SounDrive Records, MoMondays, B-Jazzed, Unpeeled, and Broadening Horizons.

“We are thrilled to offer Brampton’s young and upcoming talent a performance space to hone their skills and to provide audiences a place to discover the stars of tomorrow,” said Healy.
