Arrest made after video of Brampton assault goes viral

Peel Regional Police (PRP) have made an arrest in relation to an assault that took place in Brampton.

After a graphic video that depicted a violent altercation between a man and a woman in a Brampton suburb began making the rounds on social media, PRP arrested a 37-year-old Brampton man for assault.

The video of the incident has been shared on social media, however, PRP is asking anyone who has shared the video to take it down while they conduct their investigation.

Video surveillance and social media are powerful tools that allow for the sharing of information and assist in investigations. However, sharing sensitive and graphic content can cause more harm to the victim and jeopardize court proceedings" Chief Nishan Duraiappah said in a press release.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at (905) 453-3311, ext. 2233.

Additionally, information can be provided anonymously by contacting Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visiting their website.
