In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Region of Peel—which is comprised of Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon—made some temporary changes to waste collection services in all three municipalities including the temporary suspension of battery collection.

Batteries are considered a household hazardous waste (HHW) item, so those who have some they need to dispose of properly, may do so soon during the region’s battery collection service period.

The battery collection period will be for curbside only and will be collected between October 19-30. Find your battery collection day.

Residents are reminded that all single-use and rechargeable batteries must weigh less than 5 kg (11 lbs) and that car batteries and sealed lead-acid batteries are not accepted. They must be taken to a Community Recycling Centre (CRC) for disposal.

On the battery pickup day, residents should put single-use and rechargeable batteries in a clear resealable bag and place the bag on top of your closed green bin.

If you don’t have a green bin, place your bag of batteries beside your recycling bags and tape the ends of your rechargeable batteries.

Residents can also put the rechargeable batteries individually into bags and those into the bag of batteries and place them at the curb.

For apartment and condominiums, check with your building’s property management for proper disposal options.

Single-use and rechargeable batteries must be taken to a CRC for safe disposal.

Businesses must sign up for the Business Hazardous Waste Program before dropping off batteries at a Peel CRC at a pre-scheduled time.

Residents may also drop off used batteries at an Orange Drop location or other locations in MississaugaBrampton and Caledon.
