Change can be a good thing, and now, one major Brampton recreation centre is getting some serious upgrades that’ll bring more features to the facility. If you play or watch sports, or want to keep up-to-date on all things Brampton, you’ll want to read on.

Ultimately, the Brampton Soccer Centre is getting transformed into a indoor/outdoor multi-sport facility.

And renovations are already underway!

The most major upgrades? A new dome and two turf fields are planned to be built next year to extend the use of the outdoor fields.

What’s happening with indoor renovations?

According to the City, Fieldhouse D – often used as a temporary gymnasium – has already been converted to a semi-permanent gymnasium through the installation of a new floor.

“The new gym floor will improve the quality of the surface, and expand the kinds of sports that can be played at this location, which provides an important additional venue option for tournaments and other events,” reads a recent statement from the City.

“The new flooring can still be removed if necessary for a major sporting event.”

What’s happening with outdoor renovations?

Outside of the centre, the a new, weather-proot dome is slated to be built over one field so it can be used year-round.

“The dome will cover the field from November to April each year,” reads the statement.

“A small outbuilding will be constructed near the dome to provide washroom and changeroom facilities to players.”

You might be wondering which field is getting the dome.

According to the City, the dome is being installed on the field furthest from residential houses to minimize impacts on neighbouring homes.

In addition to the dome, two outdoor fields are being converted to artificial turf with lights “to make the fields suitable for a variety of sports, extend their playing season and reduce rain closures.”

According to the City, construction of the dome is set to begin in Spring 2019, with anticipated opening not so long after, in November 2019.

And, the Brampton Soccer Centre is getting a new name.

The centre will officially be renamed the “Brampton Sports Centre” to better reflect the multi-sport uses the centre will offer, according to the City.

“Residents and user groups told us during the development of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan that we need to enhance the diversity of sport facilities available across the city,” Mayor Linda Jeffrey said in the statement.

“The renovations at the Brampton Soccer Centre will provide more sport options at this location to better serve the community and support an active, healthy lifestyle.”

If you want to find out more about the major renovations, you can head out to the public information session being held at the centre on July 9 from 6-8 p.m.
