Bramalea GO expansion underway in Brampton
Bramalea GO customers may have recently noticed some changes to their commute due to the construction work on the new station building, parking structure and platforms as they moved onto the next phase.
For over eight months, Bramalea GO station has been under construction and there is major progress being made in order to accommodate additional passengers as well as future increases to train service, which is part of the GO expansion program.
If you’re a regular at the station, it’s likely that you’ve seen workers on-site who are contributing to the improvements of Bramalea GO’s future.
Improvements for the station include the new parking structure, which is scheduled to open by the end of 2021, while the station building is scheduled to end soon after in early 2022.
Customers can look forward to a brand new station building linked to a parking garage, which will add close to 1,300 spaces.
Other improvements include a new accessible tunnel at the west end of the station connecting the north and south parking lots, a partial canopy coverage on both the island and side platforms, a renovated island platform and side platform with new snow-melting systems, improved bus platforms for GO Transit and Brampton Transit, with a dedicated Zum bus loop and improved access to Bramalea Road.
Currently, due to the next phase of construction underway, customers can expect changes during their daily routines and changes to the island and south platform.
While construction on the east end of the island platform is complete and will re-open, the west end of the island platform, as well as the west tunnel, will be closed for the next phase of construction.
The accessible ramp on the island platform will be closed while crews work on the west end of the island platform.
In the meantime, there will be a temporary accessible ramp on the east end of the island platform behind the elevator.
Customers with accessibility needs will not be able to use the south platform if they want to access the station building, bus loop or parking lot on the north side.
There will be no elevators in service from the south platform.
In terms of the new parking structure, regular commuters might have noticed how quickly it arose.
The reason for this is because Metrolinx chose to build the structure using pre-cast concrete pieces, which means that instead of pouring the concrete on-site, the pieces are sent separately and put together on-site.
Upon completion, the improved Bramalea GO station will give customers access to more frequent GO service and better amenities.
