Bramptonians will be happy to know that Brampton has ranked higher than many other Canadian cities — including Mississauga — on a list of the best communities across Canada.

Brampton has been listed as the 199th best Canadian community out of 415. Though this may seem quite low, the city beats Mississauga by around 60 spots.

Maclean’s, a Canadian news magazine, recently compiled the best Canadian communities.

“We gathered data on 415 towns and cities across the country and compared them in the following categories: Wealth and economy, affordability, population growth, taxes, commute, crime, weather, access to health care, amenities and culture,” writes the magazine.

The magazine states that due to Brampton has been listed as the 199th best community due to its amazing amenities, demographics and weather.

Maclean’s awarded full points to Brampton for its amenities. The city boasts two major colleges (Sheridan College and Liaison College), a university (Algoma University), two movies theatres (SilverCity and Cineplex Odeon Orion Gate Cinemas) as well as many restaurants and bars.

With a population of 691,957 people, Brampton has grown quickly in the last five years. In 2015, the city had a population of 562,000 people.

According to Maclean’s, the city has an unemployment rate of 6.4 per cent. The median household income is $94,185 while the average primary real estate is $1,112,209.

Maclean’s also states that the weather is always great in Brampton. The city has had 146 rain/snow days, 229 days with temperatures above 0 degrees celsius and 122 days with temperatures above 20 degrees celsius.

The magazine lists Brampton higher than Mississauga. Mississauga has been ranked 256th out of 415 communities due to its amenities, weather and crime.

Maclean’s also awarded full points to Mississauga for its amenities. The city boasts a wide selection college (Sheridan College, Canadian Business College, Lambton College etc. ), a university (University of Toronto Mississauga), three movies theatres (two Cineplex theatres and Cine Starz Mississauga) as well as many restaurants and bars.

The city lacked the great weather that many Bramptonians enjoyed. The city has had 126 rain/snow days, 242 days with temperatures above 0 degrees celsius and 103 days with temperatures above 20 degrees celsius.

Maclean’s also mentioned that the city has low crime statistics compared to other Canadian communities. The five-year crime severity index is at 42 compared to the average of 73. However, Brampton also has the same crime severity index as Mississauga. According to Statistics Canada, “crime severity index refers to a measure of police-reported crime that reflects the relative seriousness of individual offences and tracks changes in crime severity.”

Do you think Brampton is better than Mississauga?
