Brampton Council Supports Ford Government’s Decision to Open New Highway

Last week on Wednesday (June 5), the provincial government announced it was restarting the environmental assessment (EA) for a highway originally planned to connect Highway 400 in Vaughan to Highway 407 in the Milton area.
Amarjot Sandhu, the Brampton West Conservative MPP, said in a release: “Our government campaigned on a commitment to complete the EA for the GTA West corridor to make sure our goods and services can move quickly and efficiently. People deserve a transportation network that benefits businesses, commuters and families, and shows the world Ontario is open for business.”
Brampton council showed support for the province’s decision at the June 5 council meeting.

The Council says that the GTA West corridor highway would play a key part in the city’s economic and growth plans.
“One of the challenges we have in Brampton is gridlock [and] the ability to get [a] product to [the] marketplace is critical,” said Mayor Patrick Brown during the meeting. “I know we’ve been critical of the current provincial government on some of the legislation, which we’ve have had a difference of opinion on. This initiative by a government MPP likely means the government supports it, [and] we should certainly give credit where credit is due. This would be a win for the GTA West corridor.”
The Council passed a motion tabled by Coun. Michael Palleschi, casting its support behind the province’s renewed plans for a full highway.
