Brampton honours councillors and celebrates 45-year milestone

Members of Brampton’s very first council were recognized at yesterday’s council meeting which marked 45 years since its inauguration.

Members of Brampton’s very first council were recognized at yesterday’s council meeting which marked 45 years since its inauguration.

To recognize these councillors, Mayor Patrick Brown along with councillors, presented a framed copy of the January 4, 1974, inaugural council meeting minutes to those who attended.

In the photo, the following former council members and their family members are seen in council chambers at Brampton City Hall; Stan Sutter (on behalf of Dianne Sutter), Lynn Callahan (on behalf of Bob Callahan), Terry Miller, Ernie Martin and Bill Baillie.

“At today’s Brampton city council meeting, we acknowledged the milestone of 45 years since the establishment of the first-ever amalgamated city of Brampton. We presented members of the 1974 council a framed copy of their first council agenda,” said Mayor Patrick Brown.

Brampton also acknowledged the legacy of the 1974 council members who have passed, including Jim Archdekin, Ken Whillans, Fred Dalzell, Mel Robinson, Jim Yarrow, Frank Andrews, Al Ferri, Ellen Mitchell and Frank Russell.
