At a September 17 conference, Mayor Patrick Brown discussed additional measures to help cope with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in the City of Brampton.

The conference featured Dr. Lawrence Loh, Medical Officer of Health and Regional Councillor, Paul Vicente, along with Brown.

During Vicente’s announcement, he mentioned the charges that were laid this past week under the mandatory face-covering bylaw.

“This past week, officers responded to 80 face-covering complaints that resulted in 63 charges being laid under the mandatory face-covering bylaw,” said Vicente.

“Under the Brampton COVID-19 emergency measures bylaw, individuals not adhering to physical distancing regulations can be fined a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $100,000 for each offence.”

According to Vicente, there were also 47 residential social gathering complaints and 63 complaints for loud music in the City of Brampton this past week.

Back in July, following the advice of Peel Public Health, Brampton City Council passed the Brampton COVID-19 Mandatory Face Coverings By-law, which was initially set to remain in effect until October 1, 2020.

Today’s (September 17) announcement also stated that Brampton City Council will be extending the Brampton COVID-19 emergency measures bylaw as well as the mandatory face-coverings bylaw until January 31, 2021.

“As a community, we must all do our parts by looking at our own behaviours and actions. Even though the numbers did reduce this week, we still have a lot to do on our part to practice physical distancing and keeping each other safe.”
