At a May 6 conference, the City of Brampton made an announcement in regard to the improper disposal of masks and gloves during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today’s conference featured Mayor Patrick Brown, Regional Councillor Michael Palleschi and Dr. Lawrence Loh, Interim Medical Officer of Health, Peel Region.

“I continue to be a little bit concerned that I see examples of people throwing their masks or gloves on the ground,” said Brown.

“That’s not safe at a time when we’re trying to be more clean and keep the city sanitized more than ever before.”

Mayor Brown went on to explain that the council has initiated a process where they’re looking at changing the fines from littering fines to hazardous material charges.

“We do take this seriously, so the message is if you’re going to take your gloves off, don’t you dare throw them on the ground,” said Brown.

“Make sure they’re disposed of properly.”

Brown concluded by stating that the City of Brampton should take this seriously, while also keeping up the good work.

“We can’t do all this great work of physical distancing, having the hand sanitizer, being careful in grocery stores and then being careless of how we dispose of those items,” concluded Brown.
