Brampton man charged in human trafficking investigation

Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Human Trafficking and Vice Unit have laid charges in relation to a human trafficking investigation in Mississauga.

Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Human Trafficking and Vice Unit have laid charges in relation to a human trafficking investigation in Mississauga.

In March 2020, an investigation began regarding a 26-year-old female victim who had been exploited in the sex trade at a Mississauga hotel, according to police.

Police say the accused parties advertised the victim on an online escort website and they exercised control over aspects of the victim’s life, profiting as a result.

On Friday, May 22, 2020, Roshane Johnson, a 28-year-old man from Brampton was arrested and charged with numerous offences including Trafficking in Persons, Receiving Benefit Resulting from Trafficking in Persons, Exercising Control Over a Sex Trade Worker, Deriving Benefit from Sexual Services, Advertise Sexual Services, Assault and Theft Under $5,000.

On Friday, June 4, 2020, Chelsea Virgin, a 30-year-old woman from Golden Lake was arrested and charged for numerous offences including Trafficking in Persons, Exercising Control Over a Sex Trade Worker, Advertise Sexual Services, Breach Probation and Breach Release Order.
