Brampton Man Charged in Multiple Historic Sex Assault Cases

A 57-year-old Brampton man who coached hockey in Peel Region and around Ontario is facing charges in relation to multiple historic sexual assault investigations.

A 57-year-old Brampton man who coached hockey in Peel Region and around Ontario is facing charges in relation to multiple historic sexual assault investigations.

Peel police’s special victims’ unit received information about two incidents taking place between 1992 and 1993.

The victims, both teens, alleged they were sexually assaulted by the accused, who at the time was their hockey coach, in two separate incidents.

Douglas John Russell is charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitation.  

Police say the man was an active hockey coach in Brampton and other communities in the province since the early 1980s.
