Brampton resident Corey Groves, who has been given one year to live, is suffering from a rare form of sarcoma cancer that requires highly aggressive chemo and radiation and has a success rate of only 15%.

Groves’ Instagram page, which has attracted over 5,100 followers, contains photos that showcase his love for the Lakers and his hero, LeBron James.

His wish from the Children’s Wish Foundation was to travel to Los Angeles to see a game at the Staples Centre between the Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers on Christmas Day.

Last week, Lakers basketball pro, Jared Dudley, noticed a tweet from someone who was sharing Groves’ story and replied to it asking for his contact information and it was recently announced online that Corey’s wish to attend the game on Christmas Day will in fact come true thanks to Toronto Raptors SuperFan, Nav Bhatia.

According to the Go Fund Me page, which has been set up by a family friend named Sherry Williams to assist with expenses, Groves received his Make A Wish box and was crushed upon opening it after discovering that there were no tickets inside the box.

“Corey’s mom diligently started her search online to obtain tickets for the Christmas Day game, even though the funds they’d provided for excursions wouldn’t cover the cost for tickets,” explained Williams in an update on the page.

“The following day at the hospital during chemo, he got a surprise visit from Nav with the most amazing news,” she said in the update. “He told him he was going to see the game on Christmas Day in LA!”

Groves is still hopeful that he may be able to meet and shake his hero, LeBron James’ hand on what may be his last Christmas.
