The Region of Peel has announced it will be lifting noise By-laws to allow for 24-hour delivery services.

The Region of Peel has announced it will be lifting noise By-laws to allow for 24-hour delivery services.

Starting immediately, and lasting for the next 30 days, retailers will be permitted to provide deliveries at any time of the day.

“As a leader in supporting innovative goods movement solutions, the Region of Peel wants to do everything we can to help connect distribution centres with grocery stores and pharmacies, to help replenish empty shelves,” Regional Chair Nando Iannicca said in a news release.

“Off-peak delivery is good for local businesses and the community, and supports social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” he continued.

From February 2019 to August 2019, the Region participated in an off-peak delivery pilot project that saw significant reductions in travel times, greenhouse gas emissions, and resulted in no community noise complaints.

“To assist in getting goods to market in a more expeditious manner, we applaud the Region of Peel—Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon—for temporarily lifting time-of-day restrictions on roadways and deliveries for our retailers,” Diane J. Brisebois, president and CEO of the Retail Council of Canada, said in the same release.

“As all levels of government work to protect the health of every citizen, we pledge to continue to play a strong supporting role in ensuring access to goods, when and where they are needed,” she continued.
