A youth from Brampton who made it to the finals on NBC’s popular television show, America’s Got Talent (AGT), was featured on today’s city council meeting.

Back in June, 11-year-old Roberta Battaglia from Brampton wowed the celebrity judges with her performance of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow,” an Oscar award-winning song from the 2018 film, A Star is Born.

The judges present during Battaglia’s audition were Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara from the hit television show Modern Family; and was the host Battaglia was most excited to see.

Her performance even led Vergara to press the coveted “golden buzzer,” which can only be pressed once per season by each judge.

During her semi-final performance, Battaglia performed a rendition of Pink’s “What About Us” and is now even closer to winning the million-dollar grand prize after making it to the final round.

At part one of this season’s finale, Battaglia started things off with her final performance, the first one of the night–a rendition of “Scars to Your Beautiful” by fellow Brampton native, Alessia Cara.

Battaglia’s performance once again wowed the judges, with Howie Mandel suggesting the competition was hers to win.

The finale aired on September 23 where Battaglia placed fourth in the competition.

Today, at Brampton’s City Council meeting, Councillor Rowena Santos welcomed Battaglia by congratulating her on all of her accomplishments.

“On behalf of all of my colleagues,” said Santos, “we so proud as a city to see you on that stage and for all of your accomplishments; especially at a young age.”

“You were certainly a role model for so many young people; young women, who are trying their best to do what they love the most.”

Mayor Patrick Brown then chimed in to tell Battaglia that she is making everyone proud.

“Roberta, we’re all cheering for you. Know that everyone in Brampton is behind you,” said Brown.
