Brampton's Getting a Free Barbecue Tomorrow
Every so often, there’s a free barbecue in Brampton. If you love free things, the outdoors, meat, and fall, this one’s for you!
The Massey Woodland Fall Celebration takes place on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Massey Park (39 McKay St N) and there will indeed be a free barbecue. But that’s not all.
Fall colours are coming about slowly but surely in Brampton, so this is a great time to get outdoors. What’s more - you can explore an urban forest smack amidst the bustle of Bramalea, the Massey Woodland.
It’s an incredible and essential natural heritage feature right here in Brampton.
According to the city, the event will boast a guided woodland tour, tree planting, information booths, and activities for all ages.
You may or may not be aware that the Massey Woodland is a four-hectare expanse of forest between the Spring Creek and Mimoco Creek watersheds, according to the city.
The woodland actually improves air quality, supports energy conservation, and cuts noise pollution. Further, it increases property values and is a wildlife habitat. Very useful stuff.
But, Massey Woodland also faces invasive species, littering, fragmentation, and even vandalism, so it’s in dire need of attention and support from the community.
In revitalization efforts, the city is working on a pilot woodland management plan starting with Massey Park, so this is a good opportunity to get familiar with the area and learn more.
You know it’s going to be fun when there’s a special advisory - the city advises attendees wear closed-toed shoes the the event.

As for the event, I mentioned it once but I’ll mention it again if you’re not already convinced - free barbecue!
