Brand New GoodLife Location Set to Open Soon in Brampton

We’ve known for some time now that GoodLife Fitness was coming to Shoppers World.

We’ve known for some time now that GoodLife Fitness was coming to Shoppers World. The mall’s massive facelift has been apparent for months – construction is ongoing, and more of the space seems to have been completed by the day. Now, GoodLife has confirmed that they will indeed be opening soon.

If you shop regularly at Shoppers World, you’ve been looking for a new gym, or you’re just interested in new openings in Brampton, you’ll be excited to know that GoodLife is looking to open its doors in the window of mid-December 2017 to early January 2018, GoodLife confirmed in a statement to inbrampton.com.

The new location will offer GoodLife’s staples – certified personal trainers, state-of-the-art equipment, and free fitness classes, for instance. Here’s a fun detail: the location is also set to have massage chairs, according to GoodLife’s website.

After Target’s short-lived tenure in Canada, shoppers were left wondering what stores would replace the gigantic vacant retail space the major American brand left in its wake when it folded in 2015. Fast forward almost two years, back in May we reported that RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust had found a few new tenants for some of the vacant Target locations, including the old 121,490 sq. ft location at Shoppers World.

The super gym GoodLife Fitness already runs a Fit4Less (a gym that’s affordable and has all the gym basics) location at Shoppers World, but RioCan did confirm in May that the space would be welcoming a full-sized and fully equipped GoodLife Fitness location in 2017.

Three other retailers will be opening in the renovated space before the end of the year, according to RioCan. Furniture store JYSK, Giant Tiger, and Staples will take over the remainder of the old Target location.

Staples already has a location at Shoppers World, however, they will be relocating to the new wing. Right now, Staples has a small moving sale at Shoppers World in anticipation of the relocation.

Upgrades to Shoppers World are varied and will likely continue even after the new retail opens – RioCan also had plans to create 1,500 residential units for rent in the area.

Ed Sonshine, RioCan REIT CEO, told The Globe that Shoppers World is a “broken down, old mall built in the early ’70s that we’ve been trying to figure out what to do with.”

That being said, perhaps the new stores – GoodLife Fitness included – will add some modernity or vibrancy to the mall. Bramptonians do still shop at Shoppers World (I know I do!), after all.

In the meantime, the sales office for GoodLife Fitness is now open at Shoppers World for anyone who wants to get a head start on their fitness. You can also enter to win a one-year membership to the new location on their website.
