Canadians would prefer more vacation time as opposed to a raise: survey

If you were given the choice, would you rather a raise or more vacation time?

If you would prefer more time off as opposed to a pay increase, you're not alone.

According to a recent survey from Rakuten.ca, 57 per cent of Canadians would rather take more vacation time than an equivalent pay increase.

Additionally, 26 per cent of are planning on taking four weeks or more of vacation time in 2020.

"Not only are Canadians prioritizing time off over salary increases," Claire Sweeney, VP of Marketing and shopping expert at Rakuten.ca, said in a news release.

"57 per cent don't consider it a vacation unless they travel somewhere," she continued.

Further, the desire to travel is a major reason why many respondents said they would prefer more time off as opposed to a raise--according to the findings, 78 per cent of Canadians are putting money aside to travel.

As well, 51 per cent said they budgeted for travelling instead of other personal expenses.
