Employment in Brampton is up

According to information released by Statistics Canada today, September saw an increase in employment in Canada.
According to information released by Statistics Canada today, September saw an increase in employment in Canada.
Employment across the country rose by 54,000 in September, and the unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percent to 5.5 percent. In the third quarter, employment rose 0.6 percent, and 0.7 percent in the second quarter.
Ontario saw one of the larger increases in the country, as employment rose by 41,000, and the unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 percent to 5.3 percent.

On a year-over-year basis, employment in Ontario grew by 253,000—3.5 percent.
Employment in health care and social assistance has continued to increase—a trend that began in April. In September employment in this industry rose by 30,000, and the year-over-year increase is 4.5 percent.
In the first half of the year, employment in accommodation and food services was down. However, it has seen an increase of 23,000 in September—bringing it to nearly the same level it was at this time last year.
Employment in information, culture, and recreation declined by 37,000 in September. However, on a year-over-year basis, employment in this industry remains nearly identical.
Employment in natural resources is down 7,000—it began to decline in June, and it has dropped 24,000—6.8 percent—compared to this time last year.
The number of self-employed workers rose by 42,000 in September, and by 106,000—3.7 percent—on a year-over-year basis.
The public sector has seen an employment increase of 33,000 in September, and over the last 12 months, it has increased by 67,000—1.8 percent.
On a year-over-year basis, employment across the country has risen by 456,000 or 2.4 percent.
