Full-Time Brampton City Workers May Go On Strike

CUPE 831, which represents close to 900 full-time municipal workers in Brampton, has voted in favour of a strike.

CUPE 831, which represents close to 900 full-time municipal workers in Brampton, has voted in favour of a strike.

On July 31, they stated that the membership overwhelmingly voted in favour of a strike mandate. Around 97 per cent of CUPE 831 members from the negotiation team stated that they were in favour of a strike. 

CUPE 831, or the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local #831, represents all full-time city employees except for transit, library, and police and emergency services employees.

  • Facilities Operations and Maintenance

  • Capital Works
  • Environment and Development Engineering

  • Transportation Special Projects
  • Development Services
  • Policy Planning
  • Transportation Planning
  • Urban Design
  • Cultural Services

The previous agreement between CUPE 831 and the City of Brampton expired on March 31, 2019. It was signed on April 1, 2017. 

The city is currently planning meeting dates with the union as they both remain willing to negotiate.
