Residents should be aware of a heat warning currently in effect.

Environment Canada is tracking a very warm airmass that’s expected to affect the Golden Horseshoe today and Monday.

Highs of near 31 degrees Celsius (feeling more like 38 or 39 with the humidity) and lows hovering around 20 degrees Celsius are expected.

This [heat] event is expected to be mainly confined to urban areas where minimum temperatures will be highest,” said Environment Canada.

Additionally, there’s a risk of thunderstorms throughout the day today and on Monday.

The heat should end on Monday night as a cooler airmass moves into the region.

Lower but still warm temperatures are expected throughout the rest of the week, with daytime highs ranging from mid to high 20s.

Residents are reminded to be safe and watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include swelling, rashes, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and the worsening of some health conditions.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors.
