In a Peel Police annual 5 year report, crime rate statistics are outlined between the years of 2013 – 2017. This information can be used to see trends of increasing or decreasing crimes in the city.

Brampton’s police divisions are the 21 division and 22 division. The 21 Division is to the east of highway 410, while the 22 Division is to the west. The 21 Division has roughly 279,000 to 297,000 residents over the highlighted years, while the 22 division has roughly 320,000 to 351,000.

In both Division’s highlighted five years, crimes against persons stayed generally steady. Homicides in the 21 Division ranged from 2 to 6 throughout the years, with 2016 having the highest homicide rate with 6 deaths. The 22 Division had a much lower homicide rate with a low of 1 and a peak high of 5.

Attempted homicide was a bit higher in both divisions, with a low of 4 per year and a high of 8 in the 21 Division and a low of 1 to a high of 10 in the 22 Division.

Sexual assaults ranged from a low of 144 in 2013 to a high of 204 in 2017 in the 21 Division, with a low of 151 in 2014 and a high of 296 in 2017 for the 22 Division.

Non-sexual assaults are high but consistent in the city, with a low of 1,016 in 2013 and a peak high of 1,136 in 2016 in the 21 Division and a low of 1,191 in 2015 and a high of 1,429 in 2013 for the 22 Division.

The number of robberies in Brampton was consistent over the highlighted years. Both divisions stay around the 200 – 300 reported incident mark, with the 21 Division having a low of 198 in 2015 and a high of 262 in 2016, and the 22 Division having a low of 197 in 2014 and a high of 295 in 2013.

In terms of crimes against property, theft under $5,000 is high over the years. The 21 Division has a low of 2,500 thefts in 2016 and a high of 2,780 in 2017. The 22 Division had a low of 2,521 in 2014 and a high of 3,106 in 2017.

On a more positive note, drug-related crimes have been steadily decreasing over the years. Drug possession charges in the 21 Division reached a peak high of 965 in 2015 and then reached a low of 682 in 2017. The 22 Division had a high of 969 in 2014 then reached a low of 685 in 2017.

In terms of cases solved across the city over the years, 75 – 83% of crimes against persons were solved, 27 – 39% of crimes against property were solved, and 99% of drug-related cases were solved.
