The time has finally come for the city’s new leadership to take office.

Mayor-elect Patrick Brown and the other 10 councillors will be sworn in on Monday, December 3 at a special ceremony at the Rose Theatre starting at 8 pm, according to the City of Brampton.

Returning councillors Jeff Bowman, Gurpreet Dhillon, Pat Fortini, Martin Medeiros, Michael Palleschi and Doug Whillans will be sworn in for the 2018-2022 council term, along with newly elected members Harkirat Singh, Rowena Santos, Paul Vicente and Charmaine Williams.

The inauguration ceremony will be live streamed on the city’s website as well as on the large LED screen at Garden Square located outside the theatre. The stream will also be aired in the Conservatory at the ground floor of city hall and members of the public are invited to attend.

A number of dignitaries are expected to attend, including MPs, MPPs, and representatives from the Peel Regional Police, Peel Regional Paramedics as well as other community groups.

The official ceremony will run from 8 to 9 pm, followed by a reception at the Rose. The inauguration will include a Smudging Ceremony by a Anishinaabe Cultural Consultant, a ceremonial procession featuring a Lorne Scots Piper and Brampton Fire, Enforcement, Peel Regional Police and Paramedic Services Honour Guards.

This will be followed by the new Council taking the Declaration of Office, the Mayor’s inaugural address and end with the Confirming By-law approval by the new Council.

“The residents of Brampton elected a city government that, under my leadership will be more aggressive on economic development, more focused on building a healthy community, we will demand our fair share of funding from provincial and federal governments and work towards building a Brampton of our dreams,” Brown said in a statement.

“We have many challenges ahead of us, but I am certain together this newly elected City Council will get Brampton back on track.”

As seating is limited at the venue itself, members of the public who want to attend in person are being asked to book their seats through the Rose Theatre Box Office.
