Holiday celebrations to cause road closures in Brampton this weekend

The holiday season is just around the corner and Brampton will be kicking it off with the Winter Lights Festival.

This festival will be featuring various events including the Tree Lighting and Christmas Market on Friday, November 15, along with the Santa Claus Parade and the Christmas Market on Saturday, November 16. 

Here are some of the road closures that will be in effect throughout the weekend in downtown Brampton.

On Friday, November 15, Main Street South will be closed from Queen Street to Wellington Street from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Wellington Street West will be closed from George Street South to Main Street South from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Brampton Transit routes 2 Main and 502 Zum Main will be on detour from 4 to 11 pm on Friday, November 15.

On Saturday, November 16, Ken Whillans Drive will be closed from Vodden Street to Church Street East from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Sproule Drive will be closed from Main Street North to Ken Whillans Drive from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm and Church Street East will be closed from Union Street to Scott Street from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Main Street will also be closed from Vodden Street to Charolais Boulevard from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. and Wellington Street will be closed from George Street to Chapel Street from 3:30 to 8 p.m.

Queen Street will also be closed from George Street to Centre Street from 3:30 to 8 p.m. and Elgin Drive will be closed from Mill Street South to Main Street South from 12 to 10 pm

John Street and Beatty Avenue will be converted from one-way streets to two-way streets from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16.

Free parking is available all weekend long, beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m., in all downtown municipal garages including City Hall, West Tower, Nelson Square, John Street and the Rose Theatre.

The city of Brampton encourages residents to take Brampton Transit wherever possible.
