Iconic Toronto Christmas Market cancelled due to COVID-19

In news that won’t surprise you (but will still bum you out), it has just been announced that a beloved local Christmas market will not take shape this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Distillery Historic District recently announced that the 2020 Toronto Christmas Market, an event that attracts thousands and fills the local shops and restaurants with locals and visitors, will not be happening this year.
In a statement, the organization said that the market, which typically attracts over 700,000 people over a six-week period, will be cancelled for the first time in 11 years. The organization said the crowds are too large to allow for safe physical distancing.
That said, the Distillery Historic District will remain open for holiday shopping and will feature starry light canopies, a Christmas Tree in Trinity Square and festive music. According to the statement, the district will transform into a “Winter Village” in early November.
Distillery shops, galleries and restaurants are all open at this time.
