According to a recent announcement, IKEA Canada hopes to furnish your home and keep your kids living within it safe.

Today, (October 7) IKEA Canada announced its new Safer Home mobile app which is intended to promote awareness of safety hazards to young children.

The easy-to-use app allows users to scope out different parts of their homes for safety hazards and tips, build to-do lists, and track progress.

The app tracks safety risks based on the child’s development and releases new content as safety concerns change over time. The app is designed to asses safety risks for newborns all the way to children up to the age of seven.

“At IKEA, we want to take a leading role in empowering families to live a safer life at home,” Michael Ward, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA Canada, said in a news release.

“The Safer Home app offers simple, straightforward steps that everyone can take to ensure their home is a safe environment for children,” Ward continued.

This is the next step in a series of moves IKEA Canada has made to help promote safe homes for Canadians; IKEA Canada was the first retailer to begin selling cordless blinds, they started Secure It!—a campaign intended to raise awareness about the dangers of furniture falling over, and they offer an entire range of safety products that can be used around the house such as safety plugs and cupboard latches.

The app is currently available to download via Google Play and the Apple App Store. Additionally, IKEA Canada will be rolling out home safety workshops at various stores across the country later in the year.
