Drivers in the Peel Region should be aware of a police blitz coming soon.

In Ontario, everyone inside a vehicle must be wearing a properly fitted seat belt at all times. Driver’s must also make sure anyone under the age of 16 are properly buckled in or in a booster seat when required.

Peel Regional Police will be conducting a week long blitz starting April 18 to Friday April 26, to help ensure the safety of all passengers in a vehicle.

They hope the blitz will help education, enforce, and reduce the number of injuries or deaths caused by not wearing a seatbelt. With luck it will improve road safety and public awareness.

If found in violation of the rules and convicted, occupants of the vehicles can face fines between $200 to $1000 and up to two demerit points. You can also be fined for having a broken seat belt, even if it’s not in use when pulled over.

The blitz will be conducted by officers from all divisions and Road Safety Services.

Evidence shows that Ontario’s seat belt law works and strengthens the province’s leading road safety record. Peel Police say when worn properly, seatbelts save lives.
