Brampton has been working to become a greener city for a while now.

Brampton has been working to become a greener city for a while now. They have introduced many greener transit and transportation initiatives while focusing on energy efficiency and revitalizing natural spaces and the urban tree canopy.

And, now they are introducing a new initiative at their Canada Day celebrations.

While Brampton residents are getting ready to eat some gourmet food, drink craft beer, and participate in family-friendly activities, the city is launching some environmentally friendly practices across the board.

First, the food vendors will be using biodegradable and paper containers and cutlery, and plastic-free straws, which will ultimately eliminate single-use plastic water bottles, straws, and utensils.

Second, the Craft Beer Garden will also only use paper cups – not plastic.

To top it off, Region of Peel Waste Management will be on site educating residents on how to properly dispose of garbage. There will also be waste sorting stations around the park.

The city also encourages everyone to bring their own water bottles. Water refill stations will be available across the park.

Brampton will be celebrating Canada Day at Chinguacousy Park from noon to 10 p.m. The mainstage performances will begin at 6 p.m. There will be performances from Exco Levi, High Priest, Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine and Lights. There will also be games, crafts and more activities in the Community Area. The city will also be introducing two food zones this year, and a free Brampton Transit Shuttle Service. The iconic fireworks display will take place at 10 p.m.
