Many Canadians forced to adjust travel plans this summer
Many Canadians have had to change their summer travel plans due to the pandemic.
A recent survey, conducted by Ipsos on behalf of Toyota Canada, found that 74 per cent of Canadians have had to change their travel plans, with many gravitating towards shorter road trips.
According to the findings, less than a quarter of respondents--24 per cent--said they don't feel comfortable taking a plane right now.
However, 70 per cent said they would feel comfortable traveling outside their city or town by car.
Additionally, nearly half of respondents--49 per cent--said they are planning at least one day trip during the next two months.
Further, only 42 per cent said they would be comfortable leaving their province, and even fewer--21 per cent--said they would visit the U.S. in the near future.
Moreover, of those planning a road trip, most are opting to stay within a 100 km radius of home.
As well, 94 per cent of Canadians planning a road trip said they will be taking additional safety measures during their trip.
Nearly two-thirds--65 per cent--said they will limit contact with people outside their immediate circle, while 64 per cent said they will limit their exposure to crowds.
“While this may not be the summer we had all envisioned, we’re excited to see Canadians getting back behind the wheel, slowing life down and exploring more of the incredible beauty Canada has to offer,” Stephen Beatty, vice president and corporate secretary at Toyota Canada, said in a news release.
“Whether it’s a quick day trip or a longer journey, there is no shortage of amazing, off-the-beaten-path treasures that offer great fun without the crowds. As we continue to adjust to the new normal, the road trip is a great option for Canadians who want to get away safely, experience a change of scenery and start making new memories with loved ones again," he continued.
