Milton murder victim identified as Brampton teenager

Police say a murder victim discovered in Milton has been identified as a 16-year-old boy from Brampton.

Police say a murder victim discovered in Milton has been identified as a 16-year-old boy from Brampton.

Halton police say the victim, whose name has not yet been released, was found by a passerby near the Guelph Line and No. 10 Side Road intersection on June 30.

He died as a result of a gunshot wound, police say.

Police say the death is being investigated by the HRPS Homicide Unit with assistance from Peel Regional Police.

“On behalf of the Halton Regional Police Service, I extend my deepest and most sincere condolences to the family and friends of this young man. We mourn this tragic loss alongside you, and with you. Together with Peel Regional Police, we commit to applying all available resources to investigate this tragic crime. Gun violence continues to take far too great a toll on our communities throughout the GTA and beyond,” said Halton Regional Police Service Chief Stephen Tanner in a statement.

Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah also spoke out about the incident.

“On behalf of Peel Regional Police, I’d like to extend sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.  It was a senseless act of violence which stole a 16-year-old from his family and our community. This tragic incident represents an unfortunate reality of violence which is entirely too common across the GTA,” Duraiappah said in a statement.

“As Chief of PRP, I refuse to accept this reality locally or outside of our jurisdiction. In keeping with that commitment, I have allocated additional resources to assist the HRPS in this investigation. While this is a Halton Police investigation, the victim was a member of our community here in Peel Region.
