More than 1 million Canadians no longer living in poverty: report

According to the latest available data, more than 1 million Canadians have been lifted out of Poverty since 2015.
The 2018 Canadian Income Survey, conducted by Statistics Canada, saw the largest three-year decline in the number of Canadians living in poverty in history.
Additionally, the decline in the number of citizens living in poverty has been consistent across the nation, as all 10 provinces saw poverty rates decline.
Further, Canada’s First Poverty Reduction Strategy targets a reduction of the 2015 poverty rates by 50 per cent by the year 2030.
“The Government of Canada is committed to growing the middle class and helping those working hard to join it. Today’s announcement is further proof that our plan is working,” Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, said in a news release.
“However, we know there is much more to do. That is why we will keep working hard to reduce poverty and make sure that every Canadian has a real and fair chance to succeed,” he continued.
