A popular ridesharing brand that’s been around since 2012 in the United States is officially making its way over to Brampton.
Lyft is a sizeable organization, operating in about 300 American cities already, and now, it’s kicking off its journey up north right here in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and slightly beyond it.
Initially, Lyft will offer ridesharing services in eight Ontario cities: Ajax, Brampton, Hamilton, Mississauga, Newmarket, Oshawa, Richmond Hil, and Toronto, come December 2017.
The company has been planning to take its service beyond U.S. borders, and Canada is the first country the service will venture into, and it’ll be a direct competitor for Uber. Both Lyft and Uber operate in essentially the same way.
Lyft is available 24/7 and it – according to the company – boasts “the most affordable ride in town.”
Basically, you download the Lyft app, sign up for the service, add a payment method, request and take a ride with a driver from the community, and autopay through the app with or without a tip for your driver.
“We’ve been looking forward to taking our brand of ridesharing international for some time, and we’re super pumped to share this with our close friends up north,” said Lyft in a recent statement.
The car and driver qualifications for both Lyft and Uber are quite identical, Lyft has a similar option to Uber Pool called Lyft Line, you can order a larger or a luxury vehicle in the same way on Lyft as you can on Uber, and most anyone can apply to be a driver.
So, you’ll be sharing a ride with people nearby and a driver that might even be from your city when Lyft comes here.
Hundreds of Lyft drivers will soon be on Ontario’s roads.
Lyft’s Canadian pricing remains to be seen, but the service might be worth a try if just for the sake of comparison!
