New Viewing Platform Coming to Brampton-Area Badlands

If you were a fan of the well-known (and well-loved) Cheltenham Badlands, located just outside of Brampton in nearby Caledon, you were probably bummed when the hotspot was closed to the public in 2015.
For those who are unaware, access to the popular tourist destination was restricted after the increase in visitors prompted safety concerns. Basically, the influx in human traffic–which naturally occurred as the areas around the Badlands grew more populous–led to a large number of cars being parked along the road adjacent to the site. That, along with increased foot traffic, was causing erosion along the trails, in the slopes and in other areas.
Since people were disappointed that they could no longer traverse the area, the region decided to create a parking lot and viewing platform.
Ultimately, the region decided to implement traffic calming measures on Olde Base Line Road (speed limit reduction, signage, speed humps, etc.) and build a parking lot within the site property away from the actual Badlands.

The parking lot will connect visitors to an actual viewing platform that will, ideally, provide safe and environmentally-friendly access to the Badlands, so they can be both protected and enjoyed.
Construction should commence in April.
