Parking Lot Shutting Down Soon in Downtown Brampton

If you frequent downtown Brampton, you know that surface-level parking can be limited. Now, a major parking lot closure is coming into effect for a few days and you might want to be prepared.

If you frequent downtown Brampton, you know that surface-level parking can be limited. Now, a major parking lot closure is coming into effect for a few days and you might want to be prepared.

Especially if you’re headed into downtown Brampton this coming weekend. 

According to the Downtown Brampton BIA, the 20 George Street North surface lot will be closed starting Saturday June 2.

The closure will be in effect until Thursday June 7.

A recent statement from the BIA reads that city staff have allowed for some buffer days in case of inclement weather. The lot could be open by Tuesday June 5 or Wednesday June 6 if all goes well.

The lot closure is happening in order to prepare for the Downtown Reimagined project to beautify downtown Brampton’s streetscape and upgrade the sewage and watermain systems.

According to the BIA, the lot at 20 George Street North will undergo improvements to the surface lot, upgrade, and maintenance. 

New lighting will be installed, designated parking stalls will be cleaned adn repainted, and more accessible parking spots will be added.

“The complete closure of the lot is required to conduct the work in a safe and timely manner,” reads the statement.

“The attached notice is currently being hand-delivered to neighbouring business and residents. Municipal Parking Operations staff will also be available to assist customers find alternate parking during regular business hours.”

There is street parking in downtown Brampton, as well as underground parking garages.
