The second positive case of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Brampton was confirmed on Monday, March 9, 2020.

According to a release from William Osler Health System, the individual was assessed at the Emergency Department at Osler’s Brampton Civic Hospital.

“The individual presented with symptoms after recent contact with a person who was confirmed to have COVID-19 and recently travelled outside of Canada,” stated the release.

“The individual’s condition did not require admission to hospital and they were discharged home to follow self-isolation protocols.”

According to William Osler Health System, all necessary precautions were immediately taken to protect the health and safety of staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and visitors at Osler and the community.

This news follows the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Brampton after a male in his 50’s returned from travel to Germany on March 7.

To date, there have been 36 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province of Ontario.

“We continue to be well prepared to respond to cases of COVID-19 in Peel. A coordinated system is functioning effectively to manage and contain cases to prevent community transmission,” said Dr. Jessica Hopkins, Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Peel, who said that the risk to Peel citizens is still low.
