Police say officers issued dozens of tickets over the weekend for speeding and aggressive driving in Brampton and Mississauga.
Police say officers issued dozens of tickets over the weekend for speeding and aggressive driving in Brampton and Mississauga.
In a recent news release, Peel police said illegal street racing and “aggressive, high-speed driving” continue to be a problem as a result of the reduced traffic caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdown.
Police launched the E.R.A.S.E (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere) program to change behaviour through education and strategic enforcement.
Police say that on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30, 2020, officers investigated 291 vehicles, laid 15 criminal charges, and seized four vehicles. Police also say officers issued 129 Highway Traffic Act tickets, adding that many of the charges were related to speeding and aggressive driving.

“We continue to seek the assistance of our community to call us when they see this type of driving,” said Sergeant Scott Hogan, the sergeant in charge of the E.R.A.S.E. team, in a statement.
“Our officers are out there every day doing their part to keep the roads safe, we rely heavily on our community to help us in this work.”
