A Peel Regional Police officer is facing fraud and forgery charges, police say.

Peel police say that Constable Natalie King, a 13-year-employee, has been charged following an 11-month investigation by the Professional Standards Bureau into benefits fraud.

Police say the accused has been charged with one count of fraud over $5000, one count of forgery and one count of uttering forged documents.

The accused was suspended with pay as per provisions under the Ontario Police Services Act.

“Police officers are subject to the same laws as all members of the public. The allegations made against Constable King are serious and concerning for all of us at Peel Police. However, it is important that the community know that these allegations are in no way reflective of the amazing work that is performed daily by our officers” said Acting Chief Randy Patrick in a statement.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 5, 2020.

The charges have not been proven in court.
