Since March of this year police say they’ve seen several incidents of high-end vehicle thefts, often involving the use of weapons and threats of violence.

In some instances, suspects respond to advertisements for the sale of a vehicle, while in others, the suspects find cars on roadways and intentionally cause a minor rear-end collision, according to police.

Around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, police say the victim of one such incident was driving their vehicle in the area of Mavis Road in Mississauga when a light-coloured SUV rear-ended them.

“When the victim exited to look at the damage, they noticed the suspect seemed to be looking around suspiciously,” said police. “The victim then called 911 as they believed they were about to be robbed. The suspects fled the area. The victim was not physically injured.”

The suspect vehicle’s driver is described as a black male with a dark complexion and skinny build, 5’10”-5’11”, 17-23 years old, with short dark curly hair, dark eyes, wearing a surgical mask, dark long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and running shoes.

The front passenger is described as a black male, shorter in height, with a dark complexion and skinny build, 17-23 years old, wearing a surgical mask and a dark shirt.

The rear passenger is described as a black male, 5’11”-6’0”, with a dark complexion and skinny build, 17-23 years old, wearing a surgical mask and dark jeans.

Later at 10:00 p.m., police say another victim was driving in the area of Goreway Drive in Brampton when they were rear-ended by a light-coloured SUV.

As the victim exited the vehicle and checked for damage, he was allegedly struck in the head by one of 4-5 suspects.

“A second suspect entered the driver seat of the vehicle. The victim’s family confronted the suspect who fled the scene in the suspect vehicle,” police said. “The victim was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.”

The suspect that entered the victim’s vehicle is described as a non-white male, 5’6”-5’7”, wearing baggy clothing and a mask covering his face.

Anyone with information on these incidents or potential dashcam video is asked to call 905-453–2121, ext. 3410.

Police are reminding residents to stay safe in a collision by following these tips:

  • If you believe you were intentionally contacted by another vehicle, remain in your car and dial 9-1-1
  • If you are involved in an accident, exit the car and remove the keys from the ignition
  • Report any suspicious activity, especially if you think someone is following you
  • Do not attempt to stop the fleeing motor vehicle.
