On July 13, 2006, Police discovered 31-year-old mother of two Malena Morales deceased in an apartment in the area of Steeles Avenue and McMurchy Avenue.

The investigation led police to issue an arrest warrant for Henry Morales, who was 30 at the time of the incident, who fled from Canada to Mexico.

In 2019, after a years-long investigation, police located Morales in Mexico. After a 10-month extradition process with the help of Mexican authorities, Morales was arrested and escorted back to Canada.

Morales was charged with Murder and held for a bail hearing. He will attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on September 16.

“This case is a shining example of the level of determination by our officers, in their relentless pursuit of justice and to secure closure for the family of Malena Morales. It also serves as a reminder that intimate partner violence is real threat for some members of our community” Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said in a news release.
