Police seeking public’s assistance in identifying suspect responsible for multiple arsons

Investigators from the 22 Division Criminial Investigation Bureau are seeking assistance in identifying a suspect responsible for multiple arsons to public property in the City of Brampton.

Investigators from the 22 Division Criminial Investigation Bureau are seeking assistance in identifying a suspect responsible for multiple arsons to public property in the City of Brampton.

On April 2, 2020, at 12:34 p.m. Police and Brampton Fire Services received various calls that reported multiple fires lit along the footpath of McLaughlin Valley Park located at 799 Bovaird Drive West in Brampton.

Firefighters attended and extinguished three small field fires in the area.

Later that day, at 4:51 p.m., police received another report for various fires along footpaths in the same general area.

Firefighters attended again and successfully extinguished five large field fires.

There were no injuries as a result of any of the purposeful fires, police say.

Witnesses reported that they saw a male suspect on a bike leaving the area of the fires.

Police say the suspect is described as approximately 16 to 18 years old, light skin wearing a black mask and dark clothing.

The suspect was last seen entering a townhouse complex near the south-west corner of Bovaird Drive West and McLaughlin Road North, police say.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in checking their dash-cam/video surveillance footage from April 2, 2020, between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. 

This is for citizens who were in the area or live near the McLaughlin Valley Greenspace near the above intersection.
