If you regularly purchase chicken nuggets from your local grocery store, there’s a recall you should be aware of.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recently announced that Sofina Foods Inc. is recalling Janes brand pub style chicken nuggets from the marketplace due to possible salmonella contamination.

Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below:

The CFIA says that food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.

Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

If you recently consumed this product and feel sick, call your doctor.

Consumers who have this product at home are advised to throw it out or return it to the store where it was purchased.

The CFIA says the recall was triggered by findings from an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

The CFIA says it’s verifying that industry is removing recalled product from the marketplace.
