Recent Temporary Health-Related Restaurant Closures in Brampton

 

While most restaurants maintain clean environments in Brampton, mistakes happen and sometimes creepy crawlers end up in kitchens and milk sits on a counter a little longer than it should. Well that all sounds terribly unpleasant, that’s what routine Region of Peel health inspections are for.

In the past few months, the Region closed three restaurants in Brampton for violations of the Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act (all of which have re-opened and passed follow-up inspections). Another six restaurants recently received conditional passes.

The restaurants which closed within the last few months (or since our last report) are:

Village of India - 114 Kennedy Road South
Date of Closure: Nov. 15, 2016
Reason for Closure: Food not protected from contamination, food surfaces and equipment not properly maintained, lack of required supplies in washrooms, insufficient lighting, inadequate pest prevention.
Current Status: Passed most recent inspection on Nov. 16, 2016.


African Royal Foods - Butcher Shop Area - 4-332 Main Street North

Date of Closure: Oct. 3, 2016
Reason for Closure: No hot and cold running water, premises not free of health hazards
Current Status: Passed most recent inspection on Oct. 7, 2016.


Kosy Korner - 147 Queen Street East

Date of Closure: Dec. 7, 2016
Reason for Closure: Improper food storage, unsanitized utensils, inadequate pest protection, environment not free from health hazards
Current Status: Passed most recent inspection on Dec. 9, 2016

Date of Conditional Pass: Dec. 10, 2016
Reason for Result: Food not kept at proper temperature, no separate and accessible handwashing sink, insufficient dishwashing and sanitizing supplies.
Current Status: Still a conditional pass


Punjabi by Nature - 3-7955 Torbram Road

Date of Conditional Pass: Dec. 29, 2016
Reason for Result: Food not protected from contamination, lack of hot and cold running water, employer and employees not properly washing hands, insufficient dishwashing and sanitation supplies, poor housekeeping, improper food handling certification
Current Status: Passed most recent inspection on Jan. 6, 2017

Reason for Result: Food not stored properly, unsanitary conditions, inadequate protection against pests, poor housekeeping

Reason for Result: Inadequate thermometer use, improper storage, no separate and accessible handwashing sink, unsanitary conditions, inadequate pest protection

All of the restaurants (with the exception of the Airport Steeles Vendor Market) have since passed subsequent inspections and are considered safe to dine in.
