Peel Regional Council has approved a motion from Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Brampton Wards 9 & 10 Councillor.

Bill 21, which bans sector employees in the province from wearing religious symbols at their workplace in Quebec, will be formally opposed by the Region of Peel.

In a unanimous decision, the council asked the region to denounce this bill – An Act respecting the laicity of the State, on Thursday, October 10, 2019, with an amendment made by Allan Thompson, Caledon’s mayor, to forward the motion to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

“Today we chose acceptance and inclusion over divisiveness and discrimination as the Peel Regional Council unanimously accepted my motion to denounce Quebec’s Bill 21,” said Singh.

“This decision not only shows our residents we won’t stand for intolerance but also that we stand with the hundreds and thousands in Quebec who are affected by this Bill.”
