Bad news for climate change deniers, according to a report from Environment and Climate Change Canada, more Canadians are being affected by extreme weather on an annual basis.

In addition to experiencing devastating wildfires, flooding, destructive storms, and record droughts, scientists have also discovered Canada is warming three times more rapidly than the global average.

If this continues, extreme weather events will continue to happen more frequently.

This year, Canadians from every region of the country experienced extreme weather events which included hurricanes, record-setting floods, snowstorms, extreme cold spells, record heat waves, tornadoes, and forest fires.

These kinds of occurrences cost hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.

“Climate change is the defining challenge of our time. Forest fires, floods, droughts, intensifying storms and extreme temperatures are having human and economic consequences for all Canadians. We will continue work with Canadians to invest in adaptation measures and ensure people are safe in the face of increasing extremes,” Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, said in a news release.

“Canada is committed to fighting climate change by setting a target of net-zero emissions by 2050, putting a price on pollution everywhere, protecting and conserving nature, and reducing plastic pollution,” he continued.
